The company has learned a lot from the changes wrought on business by COVID and are using a distributed model for staff and premises.
WHO SHOULD READ THIS AND WHY
Large food retailers, food processors, pharmaceutical manufacturers, beauty product manufacturers, governments, large farmers and organisaiton providing food aid.
The perfect storm occurred with the arrival of COVID. There is no doubt that the collapse of many supply chains, more specifically food supply chains, highlighted poor food security. The UK simultaneously implemented BREXIT which decreased their levels of food security. Then add the pressure of carbon footprint issues which are further exacerbated by long food supply chains, and the storm is almost perfect.
The supply chains that were broken were not limited to food, which further highlighted the weaknesses of globalisation for the first time.
These are government problems, but the truth is that they will shift this burden to the private sector. It IS a business issue that requires private sector adjustments.,
Fresh produce and food production solutions are not as simple as before. Importing has complex outcomes now. Traditional farming cannot deliver it all, so new solutions are required. The mix of solutions will be a critical part of fresh produce and food production. Competitive advantage, now more fleeting in nature, will become more dependent on pertinent decisions being made.
There are four agricultural segments - traditional soil-based, contained agriculture, vertical agriculture and greenhouses.
Each has their own strengths and weaknesses. So how do we select the mix.
